Healthy Herd Consulting is Jill Tedeschi
Sanctuary Systems Specialist
Jill Tedeschi is a farmed animal sanctuary operations, care, and management expert with more than a decade of experience with both large and small sanctuaries.
Caring for farmed animals is more complicated than folks could ever imagine.
Everyone’s had that moment when they first delve into sanctuary-level individualized care and learn that you can’t just give the residents food, water, space, security, enrichment, and love and think that everything will be smooth sailing.
And how could it be? Veterinary medicine is still learning the nuances of care for these species beyond the age that animal agriculture sends them to slaughter. Giving full-lifespan, hyper-individualized care to domesticated farmed animals is still a very young field. It is constantly changing as veterinary medicine gathers more data and experience and animal agriculture adjusts its practices.
On top of the challenges of healthcare, there are obstacles within operations and facilities. Not all living spaces are suitable for all (or sometimes any!) species. All hay isn’t equal or equally suited for all species. The same goes for fencing. What one sanctuary uses won’t work for yours due to climate, resident populations, etc. And so on… we know you know this. These hurdles remain even with endless monetary resources.
You don’t need to navigate these challenges and changing variables alone.

Kind words from Jill’s trainees & colleagues.
“Jill has been an amazing resource and sounding board for me in both a professional caregiving setting and with my own rescued farm animals. She has given me insight and support ranging from navigating diagnostics to handling herd dynamics to managing relationships with veterinarians. I couldn't commend Jill more!” — Abbie R.
“Years later, I still draw on the skills I learned under Jill’s leadership. She teaches not just the basic skills needed to be an effective caregiver but also how to think critically, anticipate and avoid obstacles, and work effectively under pressure.” — Sarah S.
“She is often brought up as a caregiver and leader that people still continue to strive to be like. She is unmatched in the animal care world and her knowledge is vast.” — Jess D.
“Her patience and kindness are only matched by excellent animal care, knowledge of multiple farmed animal species, and the ability to lead a team of caregivers” —Jenny R.
“I strive to follow in her footsteps, and will often find myself thinking, What would Jill do in this situation? Her ability to assess what an animal needs or what the staff needs seems to come to her as second nature as if she's been doing this work for a lifetime.” — Amy G.
